The Chicago Tribune recently published an Editorial titled “We were wrong to abandon Chicago’s taxicabs for ride-shares and the city now needs to find a fix.” Furqan, known as a taxi industry specialist, opined that most of the cabs were inactive, and many of the medallions are sitting in storage due to foreclosures, surrenders and unpaid fees/taxes. The Editorial staff concluded that the City of Chicago needed to encourage more taxis to come back, waive the fines and fees, and take concrete steps to level the playing field for medallion owners and TNP drivers. WGN Channel 7 aired a special premiere event on April 24, 2021, discussing the most notable stories in the one year following the pandemic lockdown. This segment included a recap of the impact covid has had on the Chicago taxi industry. Attorney Furqan Mohammed was featured in the original story in July 2020 as an industry expert and was interviewed again in April 2021 to see if the industry had recovered at all.
